The Font! VST plugin was developed to be a stereo soundfont synth.

The Font is a VST plugin for the VST, Audio Units, and
LADSPA plugin
compatible software synthesizer (Synth) for the Mac OS.

The Font History:
The Font was developed using my own Spruf, a classic synth for the Mac OS.
When I started to work on a new prototype of the Font, one week before the
soundfont contest ’85, it was absolutely necessary to look for a software
synth that would allow the maximum performance possibilities. The Spruf
synth was not enough, I had to use my then newly developed VST plugin.
I chose the Pd SoftSynths software synth because of its high quality and
quality of sound, and also because it was a Mac-compatible version of the
famous PSynth portable synthesizer.
When I started to build the virtual synth, I was very interested by the
real-time-controls feature of the PSynth. So I tried to get close to the
real PSynth by adding a level meter, but it was difficult to do with the
source code of the PSynth. With the unlimited availability of free
source codes, I could finally examine the internal structure of the PSynth,
and as a result was able to add the features to the Font.
I developed the Font myself for about a year. When I decided to release
my creation, I found that a lot of soundfont studios already
had an idea for a real polyphonic virtual synth similar to mine, but
certainly not identical. I thought that many people would be very
happy if they could import and use their own soundfont with my
plugin. So I had to make a VST version of the Font, so that
everyone could import their own VST plugin with it.

Well, if you’re reading this then something got you excited and you need to
discuss this topic a lot. The Font! (available at www.mixermachines.com) is
an instrument that was made to work with the EZdrummer plugin. It allows you
to generate MIDI and use the generic MIDI instruments. The Font! MIDI synth
plugin works with any sequencer that can communicate via MIDI, so all you
need is an EZDrummer or any other tool to sequence the instruments. You can
change the MIDI preset and play like in a real synth, get out a synth rack
and buy the Oberheim OB-8 or Roland MC-505 ?. The real stereo soundfont synth,
itself, has been built in EZDrummer format and is included with the download.

– I have finished the Solo piano and added five new sounds to the library,
most of them are women vocals. I also included a soundfont that is the final
product of the EZdrummer and you can use it in any synthesiser without any
modification.

– Bass synth was added. There is a lot of room for improvement and also fun
to play with. One thing I did was to create a preset. This preset was made
with a sequence of 4 sounds. The sounds can be triggered separately and then
connected to each other in a sequence. Here’s a video of the intro of the preset.
It starts with the soundfont straight away to trigger the library. The rhythm
pattern is generated within the instrument. Here’s the video:
