i have been using ‘r’ made simple for two years and it has been very helpful for my students who have phonological distortions or are in r therapy. it has been great to see them become more proficient with their speech and see them progress in therapy. the fact that students are required to check themselves using the picture cards is a great motivator. their peers are always amazed when they see them make such a sound. the most impressive thing is when i see a student get frustrated and out of frustration, they will make the sound. i can always tell when this happens because they will respond to the announcement of the sound card and respond to their peers with a facial expression of “i’m sorry.” that just proves it works! i am so excited to have the time and resources to use ‘r’ made simple and i will be purchasing another copy when it runs out.

i have been a speech-language pathologist for over 30 years. i have recently tried ‘r’ made simple and it is working for my students. they are able to practice their /r/ for ten minutes and use the program to check themselves. when they hear themselves make the /r/ they respond by saying “i’m sorry”.

i have been using the ‘r’ made simple program for almost 2 years. my students have been making great progress on their /r/ using this program. it has been very helpful in increasing the accuracy and consistency of their /r/.

this program is an ideal way to learn english pronunciation. there are so many different sounds to master, it would take ages to learn them all, but with this program you can learn to hear them all at the same time. once you learn to hear each sound you can begin to train your brain to recognize them in any sentence and it will become second nature.

‘R’ Made Simple is a unique program that is not currently offered by other speech language therapists. Students learn to produce /r/ in real life and on their own (in therapy and in the classroom). Students are then practiced combining consonants and vowels in real life and’real’ sentences. This program also trains sensory reception by students so that they can begin to recognize tongue and lip musculature while engaging in production of /r/.
I had a client who had a very severe /r/ that I had never been able to fix. She liked the ‘R’ Made Simple program because I could show her how to pronounce /r/ with her tongue in her mouth. She could recognize her own /r/ with her tongue in her mouth and perform /r/ when presented with a visual cue. We were able to use speech/language therapy and ‘R’ Made Simple together to correct her /r/!
Works best in the final stages of the ‘R’ Made Simple Program. A not-so-subtle way to teach /R/ is to gradually increase the targets being produced. For example, the target can be no /r/ at all, or 1 /r/, 2 /r/, 3/r/, 4/r/, etc. Or in the early stages of therapy, the target can be no /r/, then 1 /r/, then 2 /r/, then 4 /r/, etc.
‘R’ Made Simple works best in children who have passed through the initial stages of therapy. Therapists can use the ‘R’ Made Simple pictures to help guide conversation and to show students how to produce /r/ in real life and in class. This program helps children transition from isolated /r/ production to combining /r/ with other sounds. Children use the program when they are learning to read and engage in conversation. This is a great way to target /r/ in the face and mouth.
