AutoCAD 20.1 Activation Key Free Download

In the 1980s, computer-aided design was still very expensive for most homes, business and government. The market for AutoCAD was, therefore, limited to the specialist engineering, architectural and construction industries. The software later expanded its scope to being a non-proprietary, complete CAD solution.

In 2001, AutoCAD was replaced by AutoCAD LT. AutoCAD LT was a “lite” version of AutoCAD which ran on systems running the Windows operating system. AutoCAD LT used a hardware rendering engine called “TurboDraw” and lacked some sophisticated features of AutoCAD. (See here and here for a comparison between the two AutoCAD versions.)

Although replaced by AutoCAD LT, AutoCAD is still very popular. In fact, according to the latest Internet survey by Autodesk, AutoCAD is the most used computer-aided design software.

AutoCAD History

The AutoCAD story is a history of innovation, creativity, and free and open source software. Many useful design and engineering tools have been developed using AutoCAD.

1982

AutoCAD (Version 1.0) was introduced as a desktop CAD program running on microcomputers with internal graphics controllers. For the first time, engineers, architects, drafters and other professionals could design the latest in their industry and print their work.

1983

AutoCAD for Micros Systems (Version 1.5) was released, providing easy-to-use graphics for engineering and drafting tools on microcomputers.

1985

AutoCAD (Version 2.0) was released, introducing the ability to create graphics in 2D and 3D.

1987

AutoCAD (Version 3.0) was released, introducing simple linear dimensioning, a snap feature, and rendering engine.

1990

AutoCAD (Version 3.1) was released, introducing TrueType fonts, AutoLISP scripting, and expanded support for vector graphics.

1992

AutoCAD (Version 3.2) was released, introducing snap tracking, standard formatting, and a new style editor.

1994

AutoCAD (Version 3.3) was released, introducing enhanced connectivity with other CAD programs, an X/Y coordinate system, and layers.

1996

AutoCAD (Version 3.4) was released, adding an integrated

Importing drawings
AutoCAD supports importing both DXF and DWG files. The DWG format is an interchange format that is used by Autodesk products such as AutoCAD, AutoCAD LT and other AutoCAD-based products and is widely accepted by the CAD community as an industry standard.

AutoCAD is equipped with a range of tools to facilitate the import and export of DWG and DXF files. One such tool is named the “DXF Importer”, which allows for the conversion of a range of popular third-party CAD products such as Microstation, Revit, Inventor and SolidWorks into a compatible format.

Contrasting from the wide range of DXF and DWG import functions, there are fewer tools available to export AutoCAD files. One of the most common is the DXF Exporter, which allows for the export of AutoCAD drawings to Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Powerpoint) using either the DWG or DXF format. It has features to allow fine control over the output.

Technical support
AutoCAD’s support website provides support and troubleshooting information for Autodesk products including AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT. The website also provides online tutorials and videos which explain how to use the product. In 2008, new functionality was added to the website, including the ability to chat with support.

AutoCAD product releases

History of development
AutoCAD was developed over time, and its development history is traced back to a series of projects at Pixar Animation Studios. The first, a software tool called “CAD-4”, was developed between 1984 and 1986, and was based on the RenderMan software tool. It was later renamed Pixar’s “Pixar Render”. After acquiring Pixar in 1986, Autodesk acquired the code, and merged it with its own existing projects, to create its first AutoCAD product.

Pixar Render was renamed Autodesk Render in 1989, and was released as an add-on product to AutoCAD in 1992. In 1994, Autodesk released their first stand-alone AutoCAD product, Autodesk CAD, an architecture application, which included the company’s first ray tracing engine.

In 1995, Autodesk acquired Metadetect, Inc., a company that developed software tools to process 2D images. This acquisition meant that Autodesk could add photo-realistic rendering to its products, allowing
