I. Introduction

Autodesk’s AutoCAD, known simply as “AutoCAD,” is a commercial CAD program that was first released in 1982. It was one of the first desktop CAD applications, and it grew to become the standard CAD application for most desktop computer users.

AutoCAD is often compared to ArcGIS, the Earth-based GIS program. Both programs have a business focus, so they have a lot in common.
