How does one check for internet connectivity in Android?
I know how to check for wifi connectivity using ConnectivityManager.isNetworkConnected() and I can test for a network connection by overriding the onResume() method in my Activity. However I want to know if there is some better/easier way to do this?

To check for internet connection you can use the ConnectivityManager and NetworkInfo.
Keep in mind that this is a coarse mechanism of checking and you’ll need to use an HTTP/HTTPS proxy for testing web services for instance.

Grammar-based request for gender in OS X 10.10

I’m trying to write the tag name for the user, for the text editing OS X app BTAGS. On a platform that doesn’t have grammatical gender (the same way as Russian does), we have one different tag for male and female users.
On OS X 10.10, after the update, this feature is gone and all I have is “user”. That’s both male and female, as “user” is gender-neutral.
I could programmatically handle one of the two, like this
