The Blast application was designed to be a small, quick TCP service stress test tool. Blast does a good amount of work very quickly and can help spot potential weaknesses in your network servers.

Blast Free Download is a TCP-based stress testing tool. The core of Blast is an LWPish HTTP proxy server. A HTTP request will go through the proxy as if it was being sent to a remote server. If the remote server replies, then the test results are reported to the user.

– Allows TCP connections via UDP for many different types of servers
– Ability to specify URLs without user/pass authentication

This PHP script makes a HTTP GET request to the specified URL and returns the content of the file name given to the script. It can be used for testing purposes, or to read a file using a web browser.

Blast Permissions:
Blast can be run as the root user, or as a user who has full permission (root) on the server being tested. This is required to run the command ‘blast’ as a user. Blast will ask for permission if it is run as a user or group other than root.
For security reasons, the blast command will only run interactively on your system when it is in a terminal. You cannot save blast commands for later use.

Blast is a small TCP-based stress test suite developed to help you evaluate and improve your network performance. First released in 2005 as a simple packet sniffer, Blast has evolved into a powerful TCP-based stress test tool.
Blast comes with 7 tools that scan a range of testing criteria:
1. Bladerunner scans the network traffic and displays time based statistics about the transfers
2. Blasthttpd serves static html pages, receives traffic from the scanner and analyzes the traffic.
3. Blasterunner scans the http server listening on port 80 to see if the server is responding as expected
4. Blastexecutor uploads files to an ftp server, receives the file list as a result and displays the size of the different files
5. Blastfilt scans the network traffic using IP filters
6. Blastfilescan uses a brute force technique to scan for random files
7. Blastfxscan uses a brute force technique to scan for all files in a given directory

It is suited for identifying the host responsible for a connection failure on a network, for finding out when a TCP/IP application fails, and for locating a broken DLL or plug-in that is causing the problem. Blast Notes:
(1) To use this tool in a network that employs NAT, such as a corporate intranet, you must make sure that the port to be used for the test is available on the external side of NAT.
(2) Unlike other tools that test TCP-connectivity, Blast uses a small amount of system resources, which allows it to run in unattended mode.
(3) For the first run, we used the default for all parameters, but subsequent runs might give us a different result. In general you might want to configure Blast with more than one seconds of test time, but less than one hour, and several hosts.
(4) Blast does not use a firewall if it is launched as a dedicated-user (the only user).
(5) Blast can cause the infamous DOS attack if it is launched from a workstation or server where there are more than one input-streams.
(6) There is a console in Blast. When running in TCP-protocol mode, Blast can answer with arbitrary data.
