MySQL Query Optimization Help with compound indexes

I have a table whose schema is as follows:

Now, I have a request for writing a query that queries by language and keywords and returns all rows that match.
For example, in a given language, I can find an item by searching for key words “daffodils” and “North Korea” – to find all products that mention both keywords.
When I try to find all products that mention only one of the two keywords, I can’t find a way to form a query that could use a compound index on both of the keywords.
Basically, I need a query such as:
SELECT * FROM products
WHERE (language = 1 AND keywords LIKE ‘%$keyword1%’)
OR (language = 1 AND keywords LIKE ‘%$keyword2%’)

How can I achieve this in MySQL?

A:

If you can make two columns in your index, then MySQL will use an index on the two columns to satisfy this query.
I know MyISAM doesn’t support combined indices, but for InnoDB the query plan will include an index on language and keywords.
The columns in the index for your compound index will be language and keywords.
