The technique used in that analysis showed that the string theory does have the required vibrational properties, and this was the beginning of the boom in string theory research. A few years later, string theory made a new discovery that completely revitalized the field. String theory became a new direction in the pursuit of a theory of quantum gravity, and eventually a new generation of physicists saw the possibility of using string theory to make the first steps in constructing a theory of quantum gravity.
