In accordance with IMDG Code principles and practice, the IMDG Code is structured into two parts. In Part I of the Code, measures concerning the safe carriage of dangerous goods are specified, whereas in Part II other provisions of the Code, which are not directly related to the safe carriage of dangerous goods, are included.

For this reason, the IMDG Secretariat urges ship owners to read the list of ratifying parties, the IMDG Code of Practice, and the IMDG Commentary on the IMDG Code of Practice, as these documents are valuable tools to ensure compliance with the IMDG Code of Practice.

The IMDG Code of Practice is periodically amended, in accordance with the provisions of the IMDG Code. Readers should consult the latest Supplement, including Appendix P to Part I, which summarises the changes made to the Code since the date of publication of the Supplement. Please be advised that vessel owners must ensure that their crew are familiar with all relevant safety and control requirements of the IMDG Code and the IMDG Supplement, and that their responsibilities and training requirements are met.
