# Begin with a clean canvas

When you create a new document, you have the opportunity to create a clean canvas. A canvas is a black or white background with no images on it. After you create a clean canvas, you can select its background color from the Fill drop-down menu (see Figure 1-1), which is just under the Background color section of the Paint Brush window.

When you have a clean canvas, you’re ready to paint. Follow these steps to create a new document:

1. **Choose Image** ⇒ **New to open the New dialog box (see Figure1-1).**

When you first use Photoshop, you’ll have the image you want to work with already in the document and ready to use as a starting point.

2. **From the Size section, select one of the preset options, such as Small, Large, Medium, or Original.**

In the options list, the last option is called Custom, so you can select the size you want.

3. **Select the Scale Image to Fit Canvas check box, if it isn’t already selected, and click OK.**

Your image is now a size that matches the area of the canvas.

You can also select a photo from your folder and scale it to fit the canvas size, by choosing Image⇒Image Size, which opens the Image Size dialog box (see Figure 1-2).

You can resize the image by dragging a slider bar at the bottom of the dialog box, or enter a size in the pixel box under the Width and Height labels.

4. **If you want to have the canvas content available for editing, you can select the Lock Background check box, or select OK to have the existing content included in your new document.**

As your selection updates, the box on the right side of the dialog box may turn blue, indicating that the original image is locked. After you’re done with your edit, you can deselect this check box and unlock the background.

5. **From the Colors section, choose a Background Color.**

Over the years I have had both versions of Photoshop and I found a lot of truth in the marketing hype when it said Photoshop is the best, but I am not 100% sure anymore. I would love to have two versions installed on my computer again to compare for myself. I am very happy with Photoshop Elements and would highly recommend it to everyone, it is the best bang for the buck. I personally use Photoshop Elements for most of my editing and Photoshop for when I need to do a job like touch up old art or touch up some stock photos.

I have downloaded Photoshop Elements numerous times since the first version was released in 2001. Each time I find out some of my favorite new features, most of the time I am also missing other more useful features. If you are looking for the best bang for your buck, you are more than welcome to download Photoshop Elements.

The Photoshop Elements 12 version (Photoshop Elements version 15) is the oldest version of Photoshop for the PC. It is an alternative to Adobe Photoshop and contains most of the features of the professional version but with fewer features and a simpler user interface.

Using The Old Photoshop Version or Photoshop Elements?

If you are going to download Photoshop, Photoshop Elements or Lightroom for the first time, you will have to make a decision when you buy the software.

While Photoshop Elements is an alternative to Photoshop, I highly recommend you download Adobe Photoshop if you are a new Photoshop user or want to upgrade your Photoshop to version CS6.

WordPress wpdb object `global_name` not working

I am having a problem with my WordPress database connection for querying. I have created a global variable and set it to a wpdb object.
global $wpdb;
$wpdb->global_name = $wpdb->prefix;
$wpdb->global_table_prefix = $wpdb->prefix;
$wpdb->user_prefix = $wpdb->global_table_prefix;
$wpdb->backup_callbacks = array( ‘create_tables’ => ‘default_ca’, ‘disconnect’ => ‘default_ca’, );

I can access global_name and global_table_prefix without error, but user_prefix generates an error and I cannot access it from my script.
Wordpress is version 3.3.2
wp-config.php:
define(‘WP_ALLOW_REPAIRS’, true);
require_once(dirname(__FILE__). ‘/../../../wp-load.php’);

I also checked that the database name and prefix are correct in wp-options.
The only solution I have found is, that I have to use the global_name variable, because my error gets a little bit different.
If I use:
global $wpdb;
$wpdb->global_table_prefix = $wpdb->prefix;

the error changes from:
