It’s not that the show was bad, and it’s not that the second season was bad, it was just another show that was about something completely different, and although the original mission statement, “We’re Star Trek, what do you want us to do?” was reinforced in the reboot movies, it sort of shifted to, “We’re Star Trek, and if you want us to be a regular show again, we’re gonna try to be funny again”, and as I’m not a great fan of the movies, that just makes me get on my high horse even more and throw the sword at it.

And I can understand, actually, where the writers were coming from. I mean, the style of the original series was one of the most iconic in television history, and I’m a huge fan of that series, and I’m not entirely confident that I could do a second season of anything. So I get where they’re coming from, where they’re being genuine, they just went down a bad path. But for me personally, the negative was that it just wasnt funny anymore. The first episode was funny, and the other seasons became funnier because it developed a character, its central character, and they had a plot to support its development.

TNG also did a great job of applying the paper thin disguise of a space opera to the mission of providing insight into the human condition. Again, we get to watch these people solve problems. Often, when the TNG writers would try to make the show into one of the blander Star Wars ripoffs, they would lose the very foundation that made it Trek in the first place. Yet, people give the TNG crew crap for being “sapient”, I really wonder why.
What I really like about TNG is that it shows a completely different sort of time than TOS and DS9. TNG really looks forward to the future while the other two look back. DS9 has characters who fear change and push the limits of morality, and TOS has people who are afraid of change and the unknown. The strange thing about TNG though is, it starts off as an amazingly radical show, and then becomes somewhat of a “traditional” Trek show over time.
Luckily, companies like Amazon are creating an abundance of something of value that can be sold: Want to start a fashion line? In addition to the very real practical issues, youd also need to know fashion to set yourself apart and make a living. And no one knows fashion better than Me.
Some things simply werent in the original concept and the Next Gen series. Firstly, various weapons that come in the third season start getting volleyed around a few times in the third season (some even see a few appearances in the first two seasons, but not much, and not in a place that would attract much attention) including the energy drain rifle. Another could be that the energy drain is nearsighted, you can see the beam effect on a target when the beam is fired but it doesnt cause any visible effect on the user. The third is that they actually have a head. And weapon. The weapon used to dupe them has a head that looks like a pair of lobes, and by holding the trigger you can fire it in a full arc. The weapon looked more like a rifle (in the rifle/assault rifle/rifle/grenade launcher phase) than the UT version, and it was a pulse fire weapon. In the UT version they pretty much just fired a bullet in a straight line. In general the weapons were more first person and less third person on the UT version, because the Next Gen version was more first person in the view, like it should be.
